Report Stray Animals

Find out who to contact to report stray animals and report diseased or dead wild animals.

Helpful Techniques and Tools

Many loose animals are lost pets. Help them find their home by:

  1. Checking out the Lost Pets Fernandina Beach/Yulee and/or the Amelia Island Fernandina Beach Yulee Network Facebook groups. (Note: if posting a picture, withhold identifiable information, such as collar color, so the true owner can verify that the animal is their pet).
  2. Scanning for a microchip. This is a tiny chip implanted in the skin that holds the owner's information. Shelters, veterinarians and most pet stores can assist. The Fernandina Beach Fire Department also offers microchip scanning services until 8 p.m.

Report Diseased or Dead Wild Animal

If you come across a wild animal (e.g., raccoon, opossum, squirrel or fox) you suspect is sick, injured, or dead please do not approach it.

Contact the FWC’s Wildlife Health Hotline at 866-CWD-WATCH (866-293-9282). Leave a message and a biologist will call you back during regular business hours.
