Mission & Vision

Mission:

Nassau Humane Society improves the lives of homeless animals in our community by providing them shelter and compassionate care. Our work focuses on adoption services, education about responsible pet ownership, and working to reduce animal overpopulation and homeless pets.

Vision:

A loving home for all pets.

NHS pledges to provide safe refuge and compassionate care for animals and pursues workable solutions to the most urgent welfare needs of the community, namely animal overpopulation and homeless pets. These solutions will emphasize the mutual benefit of bringing pets and people together.

We provide rescue and control to animals in need and for necessary protection of our community. NHS will encourage and provide for pet adoption, animal-assisted therapy, pet care education, outreach spay and neuter programs, and other animal welfare efforts, all in support of our comprehensive community service obligation. Animals in our care remain available for adoption as long as necessary and are never euthanized for space or financial reasons.
