In every community across America, children eagerly await the joy and magic of the holiday season, while adoptable pets eagerly await a new forever home. Nassau Humane Society is partnering with dozens of other pet shelters across the country to paw-ticipate in a national howliday that was created by the Humane Society of Missouri and gives back to our furry friends!

As part of the nationwide Deck the Howls event, the Nassau Humane Society is inviting kids throughout the community to visit the shelter and read holiday tails to animals awaiting adoption.

The purpose of Deck the Howls is simple – children are invited to share the holiday spirit with adoptable pets by cozying up in their favorite pajamas and reading holiday stories to furry friends. The children benefit by practicing their reading skills in front of a non-judgmental audience and developing empathy to help make compassionate, responsible choices when interacting with animals in the future. The animals benefit by learning how to relax around visitors, leading to quicker adoptions.

Interested families and kids age 5-12 can celebrate the Deck the Howls howliday this year by participating at NHS!

Please email [email protected] to register. Space is limited. $15 per child, and please bring a book to read to the animals.
