The Nassau Humane Society is planning a special holiday “pajama party” TODAY (Dec. 5) to bring pets and young people together!
As part of the nationwide Deck the Howls event, NHS is inviting kids throughout the community to visit the shelter and read holiday tales to animals awaiting adoption.
Children age 5-12 can share the holiday spirit with adoptable pets by cozying up in their favorite pajamas and reading holiday stories to furry friends. The children benefit by practicing their reading skills in front of a non-judgmental audience and developing empathy for animals in the future. The animals benefit by learning how to relax around visitors, leading to quicker adoptions.
Interested families and kids are invited to attend from 5:30 to 7 p.m. at the NHS Adoption Center, 639 Airport Road in Fernandina Beach. Kids are encouraged to wear pajamas and bring a holiday story book to read. Additional activities will include snacks and a story.
The cost is $15 per child, payable at the door.
Dozens of other pet shelters across the country will also participate in Deck the Howls, which was created by the Humane Society of Missouri.
